This multi layered bold and dramatic piece artistically combines beautiful layered panels of etched glass, textured brushed steel and oxidized bronzed metal. The etched glass and silver brushed steel layers mimic each other in a marbeling vein like design contrasted with the rust colored splatters on the bronzed panels. Very heavy piece that is wired to hang vertically although can be hung horizontally as well. Signed and dated - Virginia Hoffman 1993

Virginia Hoffman is well known for her contemporary work in architectural leaded and etched glass projects. Inspired by the contemporary art movement and industrial design of the 1950s, Virginia began working with stained glass in 1980 after graduating from the Ringling School of Art with a degree in Graphic Design. She started designing traditional stained glass windows for churches, and in 1981 she was introduced to the International Architectural Glass movement in Germany. This movement, inspired by the reconstruction of European churches after World War II, used a more modern style of stained glass that did not include any pictorial elements.

Hoffman also studied with internationally known glass designer Ludwig Schaffrath who profoundly influenced her artistic style and expanded her design to include dynamic monochromatic designs in etched glass.
Her sculptural work follows avant-garde sculpture of 20th & 21st Century art that pushed the boundaries of accepted modes of representation in where she experimented with shape, proportion, technique, and non-traditional sculpting methods.

Hoffman, who currently owns and maintains an active studio in Sarasota Florida is a multidisciplinary artist with acknowledged mastery across mediums, each in its distinctive style. She designs
and fabricates unique modern and contemporary sculptures for private, public art projects and corporate clients. See less
