As evidenced by the glazed … Read more A lustrous brown glaze coats the slender tapered form of this late 19th-century kitchen jar. As evidenced by the glazed interior, the jar was once used daily in a Qing-dynasty kitchen for fermenting foods and condiments. The tapered jar features wide, sloped shoulders and a constricted neck with a thick, rounded lip. The warm brown glaze was layered atop a darker underglaze, creating a subtle color block on the lower half of the vessel. The opaque finish is smooth to the touch, textured only slightly by the banded surface of the ceramic form. See less
