Elmer served as a naval officer in WW II on a mine sweeper and Grace remained in the U.S. Elmer's career and furthering education as a patent attorney took him to Washington,DC and Los Angeles and then Marin, California. His wife Grace helped Elmer hang many a painting at State Bar Art Shows and hosted Japanese exchange students for many summers while they attended College of Marin. See less
