This Tiffany lamp, marked Tiffany Studios, New York, is an example of the “turtle back” glass designs of 1900. While most of the turtle back pieces have iridescent glass, this lamp has clear green glass with light swirls. The glass sides, with light showing through, are mottled in intensity. This is the result of darker green glass being pressed into the existing glass and then cased. This is called marquetry. This lamp is generously detailed with applied bronze relief and jewels at the base.
