Double-handled in a Chinoiserie design of the Yung Cheng (1723-1736) period with floral decoration over a yellow ground, pierced top with gilded finial, inner lid, impressed 'SPODE' mark in black on base and outer lid, both base and outer lid painted with the with '2991' pattern mark in red. The character of the impressed mark and the pattern number date the piece somewhere between 1820 and 1823.

Measures, 7 1/4" high, 7 1/4" wide. There is tiny chip to inner top rim (below lid) of jar.
Tumbledown Dick is thought to evoke either Richard Cromwell, the son of Oliver Cromwell, or the upside-down dickie bird.
