A marble sculpture of a girl inspired by antique classical sculptures of the goddess Ceres, the Roman goddess of wheat and fertility, her hair garlanded with wheat and with stems of ripe wheat intertwined in her braids, and with flowers on the sash of her robe. Signed underneath by the sculptor: Marchetta, ca. 1890’s - early 20th century. Comprised of two pieces, the bust lifts off the round marble plinth. Some shallow chipping, mainly to the underside of the base and a soft indentation to the nose, natural irregularities to the marble.
