Signed lower right edge, … Read more Circa 2005 bronze patinated sculpture plaque titled “Avanyu” By Tammy Garcia (b. 1969) Santa Clara Pueblo. Signed lower right edge, numbered 22/35. Tammy Garcia, renowned Pueblo potter and sculptor whose work embodies both classic design and modern iconography. Avanyu is the water serpent deity of the Pueblo tribes of Arizona and New Mexico. The Avanyu symbolizes the importance of water to indigenous desert cultures. This symbol is also associated with lightning as shown by the serpent's tongue. Displayed mounted on fabric backing and silver painted frame, plaque is 14.5" x .5" x 3.75". See less
