This exceptionally rare Erwin Nagel “Quadrondo” Multifunctional Dining Table for Rosenthal, designed in the early 1980s, is a striking example of German modernist ingenuity. Erwin Nagel, a visionary furniture designer, was known for his innovative approach to functional design, and the Quadrondo table is among his most celebrated creations.
The table’s transformation mechanism reflects the era’s fascination with modular and space-saving furniture. It begins as an elegant, blonde-textured round dining table, exuding understated sophistication. However, its true brilliance lies in its hinged quarter-panel design, which smoothly unfolds to reveal a square tabletop with a high-gloss finish. The glossy surface incorporates an optical illusion—appearing textured while remaining perfectly flat—a testament to the precision and craftsmanship synonymous with Rosenthal, a brand historically renowned for its avant-garde approach to furniture and ceramics.
Perfectly accommodating 4 to 8 guests, this table embodies the 1980s ethos of adaptable luxury, making it an ideal centerpiece for both intimate and larger gatherings.
Dimensions:
• Round: Diameter 55” (140 cm) | Height: 29 1/4”
• Squared: 55 1/4” | Height: 27 1/4”
This table was originally paired with a set of eight Cattelan Italia orange leather dining chairs, also available separately in my Chairish shop.
