One features women chit-chatting while one of them is on a boat, possibly harboring it or getting away
The other is an interesting market scene with street food vendors
Outstanding work, somehow whimsical and humorous
Attrib. to Thomas Rowlandson, (1757-1827). He was an English painter and caricaturist of the Georgian Era, noted for his political satire and social observation. A prolific artist and printmaker, Rowlandson produced both individual, social and political satires, as well as a large number of illustrations for novels, humorous books and topographical works. While studying in the Royal Academy he also spent a lot of time in Paris. Later on he made frequent tours to the Continent, creating numerous sketches of life and characters.
The presented here scenes exhibit his characteristic keen eye and humorous style
Both have handwritten in English title "Naples" at their respective lower centers
There might be some signatures or/and writings under the matting, we have not examined them outside of the mounting
The watercolors are nicely presented in period giltwood frames, gilt washed matting, under glass, ready for display

Weighs about 2 lbs. 6 oz. together
Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Slight discoloration (notably on the ladies' sketch), commensurate with age. Bold original colors. See less
