This charming pair of mid-20th-century English Staffordshire miniature poodle figurines dates to the late 1940s–1950s and reflects the playful craftsmanship associated with the Staffordshire potteries. Despite their small scale, each figure is richly detailed, featuring textured, applied clay “fur” and hand-painted accents including glossy black noses, expressive eyes with arched brows, and a gilt-painted pendant suspended from the collar.
Crafted in traditional Staffordshire earthenware, the figures display the softly modeled form and hand-applied surface detail characteristic of English ceramic production of the period. The classic poodle motif gives them a distinctly Continental flair.
Miniature matched Staffordshire figures are less commonly found than their full-size counterparts. Their petite size—standing just 3 inches tall—makes them especially appealing as decorative accents for a desk, bookshelf, nightstand, or small vignette, where their personality can be enjoyed up close.
The undersides are marked “PV” within a circle, identifying the U.S. importer Peasant Village, a 1940s - 1950s decorative arts brand owned by New York–based importer Mittledorfer-Straus. An additional “England” mark confirms British manufacture.

Applied "fur" is intact, crisply painted faces are expressive. There is a firing flaw between the eye and eyebrow on one dog that is captured in one of the photos. There is also some very fine craquelature that is not noticeable without a magnifying glass. No cracks, chips, or repairs observed. Underside marks are partially faded, as typical for mid-century import wares. Overall a charming and well-preserved miniature pair. less
