An early example of fine SPODE craftsmanship is found in this somewhat rare "Peasant Pattern" bowl. Rare because, though it is authentic SPODE from the 1824-1830 period, a rendering of this precise design is not found in the SPODE pattern book. The seller has corroborate with the curator at the Spode Museum Trust to reach this conclusion.
Photos are included of a similar, but not exact, piece owned by the Trust and a photo of the pages in the SPODE Pattern Book pertaining to the Peasant patterns. All are similar but not exact.
As a factory Spode were excellent at recording their patterns as water color paintings in large bound books, however, there are occasions when we find this is not the case.
