Synopsis
In a fountain, right next to the Cathedral of Lisbon, Saint Anthony came across to a girl crying while at her feet a broken jug showed the disaster that had befallen her. Then Saint Anthony like the present sculpture shows, picked up the pieces while he was talking to the girl and, without her realizing it, the jug was as good as new.
The Miracle of the Jug was already known in the 17th Century, as evidenced by the description of D. Rodrigo da Cunha in the “Ecclesiastical History of the Church of Lisbon”.
