Evolution of Pull-Out Couches
Pull-out couches and sofas evolved from hideaway beds (Think futons that lay flat.) of the late 1800s. During the next century, oversized cushioned sofas were designed to hold full-si8ze mattresses and springs that would pull out from the couch using straps exposed when the sofa cushions were removed.
Over the decades, full-size pull-out sofas led to convertible loveseats and upholstered chairs concealing narrow mattresses and springs beneath the chair cushion.
