Our vintage pull-out couches and sofas from Chairish are the unique early editions of modern sleeper sofas with pull-out beds. These versatile furniture pieces are especially welcome in today’s smaller apartments and in many of today’s larger guest rooms. They’re a welcome space-saver in big city studio apartments and urban lofts without separate bedrooms.
Evolution of Pull-Out Couches
Pull-out couches and sofas evolved from hideaway beds (Think futons that lay flat.) of the late 1800s. During the next century, oversized cushioned sofas were designed to hold full-si8ze mattresses and springs that would pull out from the couch using straps exposed when the sofa cushions were removed.
Over the decades, full-size pull-out sofas led to convertible loveseats and upholstered chairs concealing narrow mattresses and springs beneath the chair cushion.
