How do you make a room look bigger?

You can use several tricks to make a room look larger, including: using mirrors, integrating translucent glass or acrylic furniture, minimizing pattern, and hanging window coverings at ceiling height rather than window height. Mirrors are an age-old decorator trick for making a room look larger. Mirrors of any shape and size will be of assistance, but to really make a room look larger, opt for frameless floor-length mirrors or mirrors that occupy an entire wall. Placing mirrors between windows (that mimic the shape and size of your windows) can also help. See-through furniture can also create the illusion of more space. Acrylic coffee tables are especially smart in situations where your sofa will virtually need to touch your coffee table. As for patterns, they’re not out of the question, but keep them low-key. Think tonal brocades and pinstripes rather than showy cabana stripes, loud ikats, or plaids. Lastly, if your windows don’t stretch floor to ceiling, hang your window drapes at ceiling height. It creates the illusion of more ceiling height.
