This fall is so insanely full of design goodness it’s hard to know where to start. Our co-founder Anna Brockway to the rescue! Anna shares her crib sheet for making the most of the season so cue the leaves, tureens, and cozy cashmere sweaters.
EVENTS NOT TO MISS
The Brimfield Antique Flea Market (Sept. 5-10)
Watch out Brimfield, Team Chairish is coming for ya! Our pop-up tent (‘New England Motel’ field, Site #104) is going to be the place to chill out (thanks to yummy popsicles!), meet some of your favorite design insiders like Ken Fulk and Domino’s Jessica Romm Perez, and of course, shop all kinds of goodies hand-picked by the Chairish team. Ken and I will be hitting the fields in search of the best Brimfield has to offer, which means I’ll be vintage treasure hunting with a design wizard – so fun! Be sure to visit the Chairish website on September 14th to shop all the finds Ken and I uncover and to go behind the scenes of our trip. This one is going to be gooood!
Not Brimfield bound? Here are a few other events I’m excited about this fall:
Round Top Antiques Fair (Sept 25-30)
Birmingham Antiques at the Garden (October 6-8)
SF Fall Art & Antiques Show (Oct 25-29)
EASY FALL DECORATING IDEA
Swapping in some new pillows is such an easy way to kick things up a notch. All the new designer fabrics available make it even easier to create a whole new look. Stay tuned for my complete guide to pillows, coming soon!
7 TRENDS TO TRY
When it comes to trying new trends, sign me up! A new season means there’s a new crop of trending ideas and here are a few I’m planning to take for a spin.
This hot tamale is making a jump from the runways to rooms and I think it’ll be the color of the season. Bryan Graybill’s red dining table (above) from our recent home tour is such a showstopper!
2. Pleated Lampshades
Love how these look in a fun printed fabric. File this under “Advanced Decorating!”
3. Tuxedo Sofa
A dressed up classic that feels newly fresh.
Chic attack! So many places to put, so little time.
5. Elaborately Framed Art
I adore when the frame is so good it steals the show.
The tailored look of plaids is coming back (I’m currently awaiting a pumpkin hued Holland and Sherry plaid cashmere for my son’s room!). A plaid is such a fall favorite with a nice hint of Americana. Love!
I love the idea of using tureens in classic patterns like Imari, Rose Medallion, and Blue Canton, or having some fun with the novelty ones. I am pretty sure that my kiddos will like vegetables much better when served from a porcelain duck or rabbit! Antique silver serving pieces are another favorite and you can’t go wrong with a chic silver tureen. Soups on!
Loads of new and inspiring titles are coming out this fall. Here are a few that I can’t wait to flip through.
At Home with Dogs & Their Designers
Team Brockway recently welcomed a little pooch named Charlie to our home and I’m hunting for chic dog bed ideas.
Yes please is all I have to say about this one! Includes a foreword by the lovely and chic Amy Astley, Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Digest, which has never looked better IMO.
Dirand’s work is so insanely chic that even his book would give a coffee table a style boost.
MY FALL FAVORITES
We all have our favorite fall traditions, and here are a few of mine.
Labor Day Weekend
Last call for sun tans! I’ll be soaking up some rays at Lake Tahoe this year.
Apple Picking + Baking
My favorite Fall weekend is heading up North to Sebastopol to pick a few crates of their famous Gravenstein Apples. Picnic and pinot noir ensues as well as a week’s worth of apple galettes!
