This is one of a pair of incredibly skilfully carved beautiful mirrors, that replicate a border of branches wrapping around … more This is one of a pair of incredibly skilfully carved beautiful mirrors, that replicate a border of branches wrapping around a curved bevelled original mirror. The carving is in very good original condition, with the mirror showing no signs of crisps or cracks. The mirror carries all the age related wear you would want and expect to see with very slight delicate and decorative foxing as shown in the images. A very rarely seen and accomplished crafted collectible item that will work well, juxtaposed within a timeless and modern interior. Black Forest carvings usually depict forest animals, particularly bears, and also trees and foliage. A common misconception is that they originate from the Bavarian Black Forest of southwestern Germany, but it has in fact been established that they are the creation of Swiss carvers, originating in the town of Brienz. from humble beginnings of a cottage industry in the early 1800s it grew by the turn of the 20th century to become the major employer of an entire skilled community.?? Black Forest carvings are often humorous and whimsical — bears smoking pipes, reading books, and even skiing. Far from being ‘mere whimsy’ however, the carvings were exhibited at many international exhibitions such as London Great Exhibition of 1851, Chicago World’s Fair 1893, and Exposition Universelle Paris 1900. In Europe, they became a symbol of luxury and wealth. Their popularity also grew in many overseas markets, and there was a high demand for these carvings especially depicting American wildlife. Today there has been a tremendous revival of interest for them and the best pieces are highly sought after. Weight 6kg. less

Orders where Free Local Pickup or Seller Managed Local Delivery were selected:
- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
- Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final
- International, cross-border returns may require different processes depending on the countries between which the item is shipping to/from, and the buyer is responsible and duties (if applicable, on cross-border orders).
- On approved returns, the buyer is responsible for the full cost of return packing and shipping.
Cancellations
- Prior to shipping or local pickup, buyers may cancel an order for any reason, with the exception of some Made-to-Order items, where supplies have been purchased or work begun on the item.

- Chairish Express In-Home deliveries are currently only offered for international cross-border shipments.

- Deliveries can take anywhere from 6 to 9 weeks to be delivered.
- Chairish Freight Delivery
- Delivered in a crate, to your front door.
- You will need tools and/or equipment to open the crate.

- Chairish Freight deliveries can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.
