In the background, we discover a hilly landscape overhung by a city surrounded by ramparts whose shapes appear in the distance. The valley is teeming with vegetation. Trees in shades of green appear in chiaroscuro. Indeed, the sun finishes its race and starts to darken the scene. The pontoon joining the wash house is crossed by several characters: a woman carrying a basket filled with laundry on her head, a child touching the water with her stick and finally another woman discussing with a man. Their traditional clothes date from the 19th or 18th century. In the washhouse, we observe a woman wearing a headdress, washing her clothes.
Concerned with details, the artist has created a work with soft lights, playing with the shadows and the brightness of the day. His colors are soothing. It emanates a feeling of calm.
