Old town in swabia' oil on canvas signed ed. Zetsche 1910 in a gilded wooden frame painting: 40.55 x 28.74 in frame: 47.24 x 35.43 in inscription on the back: ed. Zetsche wien viii. Piaristengasse 36 "altes städtchen in schwaben" eduard zetsche (1844 vienna - 1927 vienna) austrian landscape and veduta painter of the duesseldorf school, also worked as a writer and illustrator of travelogues. In addition to his job as a bank clerk, zetsche took painting lessons from robert russ and emil jakob schindler. After his bank dismissed him as a result of the founder's crash of 1873, he began studying painting at the academy of fine arts in vienna under eduard peithner von lichtenfels in 1874. Dissatisfied with his teaching, he moved to the duesseldorf art academy in 1878, where he was a student of eugen duecker until 1880. His landscape painting had overcome late romanticism and was characterized by naturalism. Carl ernst forberg also taught him at the duesseldorf academy. On his return to vienna, he was particularly successful with his watercolors, ink and pen drawings, which took up motifs from the vienna area and earned him the reputation of a 'bach and castle painter'. In addition, he painted views of the areas around stift heiligenkreuz and on the leitha, as well as views of the waldviertel and the wachau, of tyrol, germany and italy. He soon began writing essays and travelogues, illustrating them and publishing them in book form. Later he also created flower paintings. - Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
