Collections of plant specimens, dried and carefully placed into pre-printed folio pages called a herbarium became a popular past-time for young botanists, particularly young women enthusiasts for whom career or practical scientific study wasn't an option.
Meier's Herbarium and Plant Description published in Philadelphia by Ginn & Co., specimen is very nicely pressed and dried and displayed on a 8 1/2" by 11" page. We pasted the plant description page that has been neatly filled out by the student including detailed hand drawings of their details to the backs of the framed folios.
