He was the second son of Jean-Baptiste … Read more Large sculpture in bronze with brown patina, signed Hippolyte Moreau (1832 - 1926). He was the second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau and brother of Mathurin and Auguste, all recognized sculptors of the 19th century. Hippolyte follows the traditional and academic canons of the representation of the body and exalts the female beauty by paying particular attention to the details. He was very successful and won two medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1877 and 1900.
"Jeune Paysanne" is an ode to youth and the land, imagined by the artist at the end of the 19th century. It shows a young woman with a childlike face looking into the distance. Her graceful throat is highlighted by her light dress with a fluid drape that emphasizes her shape. She holds a pitchfork in her hand, while her bare feet are anchored in the vegetation.
The signature H. Moreau is affixed on the terrace. The artist has created a finely sculpted work that will delight lovers of refined art objects.
