Large sculpture in white marble representing the heroes of Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel Quo Vadis: A Novel of Nero's Times. This novel, published in France in 1900, was a great success in bookstores. It tells the love story of a Roman practitioner, Marcus Vinicius, and a young Christian girl, Callina, nicknamed Lygia, daughter of the king of the Lygians.
This sculpture shows the lovers sitting on the steps of Rome accompanied by two doves embracing, symbolizing love and peace. Vinicius, below, seems to declare his love, while Lygia, lustful, listens to his words. Quo Vadis is engraved on the parterre in front.
Meticulously executed, this decorative work will delight by its symbolism and charisma.
