moreThis stunning close up of a forest floor was surely inspired by daily autumn walks in nature. The artist spent much of her life in the Mystic, CT area. Fallen leaves in various state of decay give the viewer a palette of deep indigo purples, pale effervescent lavenders, coppery and mellow golds and rich auburn and russet tones. The work is nicely matted and framed. It is signed in the lower right corner 'Schink'. The work was framed in 1999- a few years before the artist stopped painting.
Helen (Gilbert) Wilson Schink, (1923-2018) is an American artist who came late to her calling. Born in New London, CT., she attended The Knox School in Cooperstown, NY and graduated Bryn Mawr College. In her early forties, she took art classes from several artists in the Mystic, CT. area including Charles Gruppe, Al Brouillette, Foster Caddell and S. Jerome Hoxie. She later studied in South Carolina under Betts, Brommer and Barnes. Her work has been displayed at The Slater Museum, Pratt/Wright Gallery, the Old Lyme Galler, the Mystic Art Association and the Rose Farm Gallery, all in Connecticut as well as the Sharon Arts Center, the Jaffrey Civic Center, the Church Gallery and the Peterborough Art Gallery in New Hampshire. less
