Cannon fire and smoke billow around the two ships in the foreground. Appears to depict a skirmish during the Quasi-War which was a time of undeclared naval war between France and the newly formed United States of America. This occurred from 1798 to 1800 and stemmed from a dispute between France and the USA over its trade alliance with Britain. In this painting, the British ship and another ship with a solid red flag are seen in the background. The French flag is backwards, possibly as a nod to their similarly backwards naval flag.

Sunlight reflects off the many billowing waves and sails. The apparent movement of the ships and the details and colors of the clouds all draw the viewer into the scene. Painted with acrylics on a 36"x24" canvas and framed with a thick, heavy wood frame. The frame is coated with plaster and painted with a copper finish. Perfect for nautical decor or as a statement piece on any wall.

Due to its large size and weight, this will be available for in home delivery and local pickup to help ensure its safe arrival at its new home. It will be strung with heavy duty hanging wire and ready to be hung. Please comment if you have any questions. less
