The horses of Marly were commissioned by Louis XV to sculptor Guillaume Coustou to decorate the entrance of the park of Marly castle. In 1794, the marble statues of Carrara were transferred to Place de la Concorde in Paris where a replica is still visible. The original statues are kept in the Louvre. These statues have inspired many sculptors and there are many reproductions. This representation is in brown bronze with a golden patina. As on the original statues, the emotions of the horse and his groom are beautifully represented. Good condition. D21 H28. 1,4 Kg. See less
