I made this piece in my woodshop … Read more A very Curly Anigre veneer with solid Anigre trim in a transitional style.
I made this piece in my woodshop a couple of years ago shortly after I opened (2018).
It has waterfall top to side corners, mitered front trim, and mitered frame raised panel doors. The interior also has curly grain. There are 7 drawers, 3 shelves and a hanger bar inside. The drawers have dovetail joints with maple sides and some cedar in the backs, the runners are integral old style wood on wood. It has two adjustable shelves above the drawers and a shelf behind the 17" hanger bar. A finished back also allows it to be set away from the wall, as in a room divider (A few small brass nails are used in securing). I used a chestnut brown stain with tung oil and urethane finish and finished it off with a hand applied and buffed Danish oil; then completed it with oil rubbed bronze finish hardware.

I did my own veneering, and have since made two nightstands from the same Anigre wood, which comes from East Africa. I love the wood grain and patterns featured in Danish Modern furniture, while I also love the lines of the more traditional styles of furniture so I try to blend the two in my work.
