Charming watercolour, heightened with bodycolour and gum arabic by Richard Deighton (British 1795-1880) depicting Admiral the Hon. Jenry John Rous (1795-1877) who held the position of public handicapper at the Jockey Club.
His great friend was Mr George Payne (1803-1878) who himself was a popular figure of the turf, owned many horses, and gambled heavily!
