The Emperor’s Table.
A year of sharp edges and sudden endings.
In a sun-drenched studio in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Lillian V.M. Helander is sketching. She isn't thinking about the ticker tape or the whispers coming out of Wall Street. She is thinking about power. About the weight of a hand on a desk in the Tuileries.
She calls it Napoleon.
It is Art Deco stripped of its usual frippery. No floral garlands. No dainty scrolls. Just bold, masculine geometry and the kind of architectural discipline that would make a Roman centurion nod in approval.
Holmes and Edwards produced it with their legendary "Inlaid" technique—solid silver blocks fused into the points of greatest wear before plating. It was over-engineered for a world that was about to become very lean. When the Market crashed, the production lines stopped. Napoleon retreated, leaving behind only a few sets for those who understood that true luxury doesn't need to shout.
The Service
This is a comprehensive 65-piece assembly. It possesses a certain restrained sophistication.
The Full Guard: 8 Dinner Knives, 8 Dinner Forks, 8 Salad Forks, 8 Soup Spoons, and 16 Teaspoons.
The Specialists: 5 Viande Knives and 6 Viande Forks.
The Reinforcements: 1 Sugar Spoon, 1 Master Butter, and 5 Serving Spoons.
The Particulars
Condition: Excellent vintage character. They’ve been invited to many dinners, but they’ve always behaved themselves. Light usage marks, the kind that suggest good stories told over even better wine.
Design: Deeply silver-plated with "Inlaid" protection. Spare, geometric, and unapologetically Deco.
The Rarity: Produced for a vanishingly short window between the Jazz Age and the Great Silence.
Holding one of these forks feels less like setting a table and more like commissioning an empire. Or at least, ensuring your dinner guests know exactly who is in charge of the roast.
