Édouard Vallet born January 12, 1876 in Geneva and died May 1, 1929 in Cressy is a Swiss painter, engraver … Read more Édouard Vallet born January 12, 1876 in Geneva and died May 1, 1929 in Cressy is a Swiss painter, engraver and designer.Born into a family of French traders, Édouard Vallet visited several French boarding schools before returning to Switzerland in 1892 when he began an apprenticeship with an ornamental sculptor.He took lessons in woodcut from Alfred Martin at the School of Industrial Arts where he had fellow students Jules Fontanez and Henry-Claudius Forestier.In 1900, he obtained an honorable mention at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.The years from 1908 to 1927 were marked by long stays in Valais, in the municipalities of Savièse, Ayent, Hérémence, Vercorin and Sion.In 1911, he first married the painter Marguerite Gilliard (1888-1918), daughter of the painter Eugène Gilliard. She died in Neuchâtel following the delivery of their second daughter.from 1912-1929, his work was successful in exhibitions in Geneva, German-speaking Switzerland and southern Germany.In 1920, he married for a second time the Valaisanne Marie Jollien (1886-1951), mother of a seven-year-old son, with whom he had a daughter in 1922.On May 1, 1929, he died of an infectious disease and was buried in the Confignon cemetery.
