There is a walnut disk and a green felt bottom. Wine coasters were originally named sliders since they were used after the ladies left the table and gentlemen imbibed in after dinner drinks of sherry and port. The coasters were used to "slide" the bottle to the next gentleman. Hallmarks indicate this lovely coaster was created by Corbell & Company, which began manufacturing silver tableware in 1946 and subsequently moved to the US in 1951. See photo of hallmarks: C & Co, Castle stamp, EP. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Diameter=6-3/8 inches, Height from top to bottom=1-1/2 inches. This marvelous wine coaster has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent vintage condition, with no wear to silver plating and some wear to walnut base. It is perfect as a wedding gift or to use at your next party, particularly if you love wine!
