Antique Japanese Kiri Hibachi, a traditional fire basket made of paulownia wood from the late Meiji period (1890-1910).
The decoration consists of floral motifs in the Maki-e technique (蒔絵).
The brass lining is removable. Hibachi shows some chips and a crack along its entire length. Not disturbing.
Originally used as a hand warmer, there are now multiple contemporary uses for this piece, such as planter or as a decorative Wabi Sabi interior element.
