this is a pair of stunning french commodes from the late 19th century in the classic louis xv style, dating around 1890. Made from fruitwood, these two drawers boast intricate floral marquetry and bronze mounting that truly embodies the elegance and sophistication of the louis xv period. The serpentine shape of the commodes, with scrolled floral handles and a beautifully tied floral bouquet marquetry, is complemented by the smooth marble top. The interior drawers are made from oak, while the front and sides are covered in a rich walnut/nutwood.
this unique feature of the commodes, with one being slightly larger than the other, is reminiscent of the traditional practice of differentiating sizes for men and women's furniture. For example, in the same manner, armchairs were also made in different sizes, with the larger one meant for the gentleman and the smaller one for the lady. This charming difference in size adds an extra touch of elegance and history to these beautiful louis xv style commodes, making them not only functional pieces of furniture but also stunning works of art that evoke the grace and charm of a bygone era.
