This is an original quadriptych painting, a study of the human figure, male and female in anatomical position. Created from life in my studio during a year I spent deepening my understanding of human anatomy. Part of this inquiry led me to study with massage therapy students in kinesiology and also found me in the Stanford Morgue for a series of intensive workshop. Learning human anatomy is incredibly useful for making better paintings in a technical way, but more importantly, studying anatomy increases my awe and love of our bodies and I hope that comes across in the paintings.
These pieces are created on cradled birch panels, gessoed in a traditional manner, created to last for generations. The sides are painted, and are wired for hanging. They are designed not to be framed. The work is composed of four separate paintings hung together about 2 inches apart to create a single piece of art. They measure 21" high and 13" wide and are 1.5" deep. They hang together at 58" wide.
