This intriguing painting is created by Joseph Grimeland, artist/ Norway known for his sculptures.... Beautiful ornately carved antique precious metal gold leaf frame.

Grimeland taught painting and drawing to my Mother and Uncle circa 1930-40s-early 50s ? in Rome... The painting is unsigned as far as we can tell yet I have not removed it from the frame.

I use the word intriguing because there are a lot of quite interesting characters depicted possibly mythological in nature. The theme is religious in nature. History of Artist:
Grimeland was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. ..In 1933, he entered the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts (Statens kunstakademi) where he had Wilhelm Rasmussen as an instructor. He debuted at the Autumn Exhibition (Høstutstillingen) in 1935.[2] [3] See less
