Baron Courtens painted a number of Medieval villages, all in his unique Modernist Abstract style. The painting is framed in an original, ornately carved wood frame.

Pierre Courtens is a Belgian painter, born in Brussels in 1921. The Baron Pierre Courtens is the third generation of painters with his brother Jacques Courtens, son of Hermann Courtens, grand son of Franz Courtens. His grand father, then his father, Director of the Royal Academy of Beaux-Arts in Brussels, were ennobled by the King of Belgium for their talent and this title become hereditary.

In 1942, Courtens entered Beaux-Arts Academy at Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Brussells), with the painter Jacques Maes as professor. He studies monumental decorative art with Anto Carte and follows etchings and engravings courses at Academie Supérieure du Royaume de Belgique at Antwerp.

In 1947, after many stays in France and in Deutschland, Pierre Courtens settles in Paris, and leaving classical ancestral painting, gives free rein to his newly embraced style

Courtens died at Riberac, Dordogne (South of France) in 2004.
Many works by Pierre Courtens are on display in numerous European countries, USA and Canada as well. Some of his paintings are exhibited in museums in New York, San Diego, London Paris and Montreal. See less
