It is reported to have come from a railroad station in Iowa. That is all we could come up with as far as its history. We acquired it because of the relatively unusual design and we knew that after putting a little work into it that the cabinet could look very nice and be functional. It is overall in nice sturdy condition and the majority of the Oak wood work looks fine. The drawers slide in and out properly and the doors operate properly. Since there was a good amount of work put into it just prior to this listing, and to describe all in full detail, it is going to be described from top to bottom. The top surface is in very good shape with no damage and a nice finish. The doors have wear around the edges and the repair job on the left one was done ages ago. The interior behind the doors looks good now that it has been stained as it was unfinished before. One of the drawers was missing a knob so one of the ones from a door was used and the doors received metal knobs from the same period. The drawers are all in good condition with no damage beyond a couple cracks in the bottoms. The insides were not finished so these were also stained and now look very nice. One of the bottoms and a back have been replaced (prior to us) and the rest are original. The top two drawer faces and knobs are all fine with no issues. the third one down has sheered off piece along the bottom and the bottom one has a crack on the left. The bottom piece under the drawers was replaced somewhere along the line and it matches nicely. The interior behind the drawers all looks good. Two of the side runners were replaced and stained to match, and the vertical drawer stop has been replaced. The bottom of the piece looks good with no rot or damage. There were caster wheels present but they were too far gone so they were removed. The sides of the cabinet are in very good shape and have a nice finish, so much so that it was nearly impossible to get good pictures due to the glare from the lights. The back was replaced at some point and it is very solid. This portion was unfinished so it was stained. This is a piece of Midwestern American history with a lot of character that is wearing its bumps and bruises well. less
