Antique two-tone block relief mustard yellow and black pharmacy sign reads 'Dr. Lyna's Hair Grower - cures scalp disease - toilet cream - beautifies the complexion. This is a genuine cardboard paper advertisement from 1910-1920, not a reproduction.
Any vintage typeset or font enthusiast will appreciate the swoops on the A's and quirky R's. Frame and hang it in the powder room as a graphic object of interest with a story.
Many antique signs and bottles of home remedies found today are referred to as quack medicine or snake oil. In this case, Dr. J.B. Lynas was a successful doctor who developed and sold a line of home remedies in the late 19th century in Logansport, Indiana. By 1874 his business was so lucrative that they had to move to a larger facility, and by 1906 they employed over 1400 employees.
So was this potion the real deal, or was Dr. Lyna a marketing genius? We'll never know, but it's fun to speculate.
