moreThis is a large beautiful chunk of Kosta Boda glass by Bertil Vallien b. 1938 in Sweden. This piece is part of his Domino series but this one is often refereed to as "swimmer". It measures 8 3/4" x 8 3/4" square x 2 1/2" deep. It is quite heavy. Vallien's pieces are quite modern in flavor and this one is no exception. The swimmer floats in the center of the piece. But all around that center square you will see squiggles, and arrows, and circles, and another swimmer. The piece is in great condition with a few scratches to the base from placing it on glass.

As Sweden’s most innovative and well-known contemporary glass artist, Vallien has exhibited around the world from California to Israel. His work is in numerous public collections, including: The State Heritage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia); the National Museum (Stockholm, Sweden); the Victoria and Albert Museum (London, England); the Art Institute of Chicago (IL); the National Museum of Modern Art (Kyoto, Japan); the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, NY); the Powerhouse Museum (Sydney, Australia); and the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA).
