"Nothing's Gonna Hurt You, Baby" is a moody, colorful abstract oil painting that explores themes of self-reflection, the human condition, and identity. Monica created this piece thinking about the ways we interact in the after times of the pandemic. Monica uses her materials, specifically thick layers of oil paint, as an active participant in this painting that explores a yearning to connect with each other after living in an extended period of isolation. Punctuating her rhythmic, gestural marks with varying shades of blue, pink, and green, Monica creates a vivid, optimistic and energetic painting that will add dimension and a pop of color to any space.
This sculptural painting is created on a gallery-wrapped canvas that is painted on all four sides.
Monica has been featured in various publications including the Washington Post, Popular Photography, Create magazine, and the Huffington Post. In 2019 she was named "Best Artist" in Westchester by Westchester magazine. In 2022 Monica was invited to become a member of the National Association of Women Artists. Her work has been shown at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, the National Arts Club in NYC, Photo LA, Art Market Hamptons, PULSE Art Fair, and the New York Mercantile Exchange, among others.
Monica lives and works in the lower Hudson Valley. She is available for commission. Follow along behind the scenes on Instagram @monicashulman or monicashulman.com
