"Peonies and Pewter" is limited edition Still Life giclee print on archival Somerset paper with Equipoise inks. It is signed, titled and numbered by the artist and is number 66/150. Image size is 14-5/8" h x 10-1/4" wide on 17" h x 15-1/2" paper. Note: image is not centered on paper.
In the style of heightened realism, Alex Gnidziejko’s paintings are reminiscent of the Dutch masters of the 16th and 17th centuries.
His painstaking technique of egg tempera emulsion and oil give his paintings a stunning depth and three-dimensional quality. The process he uses starts with a precise under painting with white egg tempera. Using small brush strokes that follow the contour of the subject, Gnidziejko brings definition to the form and accentuates its highlights. Transparent oil glazes of complementary colors are then applied to the painting. By building up often twenty or more layers of these glazes over luminescent egg tempera, he is able to achieve the life-like quality that characterizes his paintings.
As one of the foremost masters of this medium, his work is included in many public and private collections, including the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
