Painting on copper. Italian school of the late 17th century. The scene, which recounts a moment in the Passion of Christ, is filled with the characters, intertwined with each other and framing Christ, in the centre: his figure, immobile and recollected in his suffering, contrasts with the plasticity and vigour of the bodies of his tormentors. All the figures are well characterised in their costumes and expressions. The outline is dark, except for a single torch with grates, the only source of light. The cretto is marked by numerous small holes. The work is in a gilded antique frame.
The painting depicts the scene of the mockery of Christ, where one can see who is spitting and who is holding him in chains.
A very engaging religious piece. The painting is in good and original vintage condition, slight scratches and light wear consistent with its time and use. Original copper.
Being a VINTAGE item it is possible that it will bear some scratches or defects.
