Preparatory drawing in pencil and white chalk on paper by French artist Théodore Chassériau (1819–1856), dating from the early 1850s. The work depicts a study of a male nude for the painting "La Guerre des Gaules (1855)" kept at the Musée d'Art Roger Quilliot in Clermont-Ferrand. Specifically, it is the second figure standing from the left in the original painting.
The sheet measures 19 × 30 cm and bears the artist's blue stamp in the lower right corner, a characteristic feature of his work. On the back are numerical inscriptions in pencil, which can be traced back to working notes or cataloging references.
The work shows good stability of the paper support and retains the original traces of the materials used. The surface is generally intact and consistent with the period in which the drawing was made.
The condition report and the document of lawful provenance issued by the Ministry of Culture are available.
