Artist statement: All my life I have been inspired by themes of fantasy and mythology. In this piece, I reflected back on a dream I had the year prior where I met the personification of the ocean. She had hair flowing like waves and a wondrous sense of delight in her element. It was an experience for me to see this underwater world full of life and color. I sought to portray this in the best way possible. The jellyfish is illuminated from above and shines down on the woman’s face. She holds it with gentleness and admiration. Much like the jellyfish, our oceans are fragile and need careful handling too. See less
