Each panel is expertly detailed with carved griffins flanking a floral urn with mirror backing and green painted outer frame. The 19th century panels most likely originated from an important palace like interior appearing over an entrance.

The griffin is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and sometimes an eagle's talons as its front feet.
