The monro brothers were the sons of dr thomas monro who ran the informal 'monro' academy, where the young j.m.w. Turner and thomas girtin found patronage, along with other members including john linnell, john sell cotman, peter de wint, william henry hunt, joshua cristall and john varley.provenance: alexander monro and by descent.all artworks come with a certificate of authenticity and in some cases an accompanying text or artist biography. Signed: inscribed with initials verso: lower right 'am' and centre-right 'by am after jh & again after edridge'. Inscribed: inscribed verso in brown ink by am and also 'hector', which is the name of alexander monro's son. Dated: dated verso. Height: 36.6cm (14.4″) width: 29.2cm (11.5″) condition: in good condition for its age. There is a tiny nick to the paper at the upper right edge, and a small crease line at the lower left corner.
