Gastone Rinaldi was born in Padua in 1920. He initially worked for the Rima company founded by his father Mario Rinaldi in 1916.
In his work as a designer he was able to come into contact with many of the major Italian designers, including Giò Ponti, Carlo Mollino, Alberto Rosselli, Franco Campo and Carlo Graffi, Michele De Lucchi and Marco Zanuso. In 1954 he won the Compasso d'Oro Award with the DU30 chair produced by Rima.
In 1974 he founded the company Thema. In 1981 his Dafne chair produced in 1979 received a mention at the Compasso d'Oro, as also in 1981 the Aurora. The Saturno sofa is part of the prestigious collection of the MoMA modern art museum in New York.
Gastone Rinaldi died in Padua in 2006. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
