Vassily Kandinsky (1866, Russian Empire - 1944, France). Pioneer of abstract art, Vassily Kandinsky is not only Russian: he is above all an international artist who lived several years in Paris, traveled to Europe, and made herself known by his theoretical essay "of the spiritual in art "(1911). This major artist, member of the Bauhaus and creator of the Blaue Reiter, marks a decisive turning point in the birth of abstraction. He is at the origin of a new language which expresses his "inner nature" and which calls for musicality. with this first truly abstract painting, Kandinsky invents pure composition. Everything seems to be ordered around this sober and powerful arch, surrounded by colors treated by masses. Kandinsky attributes expressive capacities to the different colors. A large black arc holds three blocks of colors at a distance ready to collide. These "three continents that collide" are kept in tension by a black arc which is inspired by the "Douga", a traditional Russian harness. The world of appearances is turned here into a chaos of shapes and colors, all in shades and in movement. with the help of simmering touches, the lines dissociate colors, creating as much disagreement as alliances. Neighboring the principle of dissonance implemented by the composer Arnold Schönberg, this research brings Kandinsky to invent an abstract pictorial language as powerful as music.
