About Joni Falk
Joni Falk was born in 1933 in Chicago, IL. Her mother died when she was two years old and her father’s sister raised her and her three siblings. Both her father and her aunt encouraged her artistic talents from a young age. She majored in English at Marquette College and then worked for Continental Casualty in Chicago, where she met her husband, Bob. After a couple of moves to Montana and Seattle, the couple was enticed to Arizona by family. Her husband opened an art supply store and Falk taught there for 13 years. After her battle with ovarian cancer, they established a graphics business in Scottsdale. Falk continues to teach classes at the Scottsdale Artists School.
Falk is a realist painter of Western and floral still life, Pueblo and Plains Indian landscapes and Indian figures. It was the Southwest culture and history that compelled her to seek a full-time career as an artist. Falk is well known throughout the US and Canada for her paintings of Indian life. She travels frequently to Indian pueblos and reservations from the New Mexico and Jackson, WY areas, where she also gets subject matter for her landscapes.
Falk has exhibited at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY, the Albuquerque Museum, Cheyenne’s Old West Museum, The Tucson Museum of Art, the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenberg, AZ, the McAllen Museum in McAllen, TX, and the Phippen Museum in Prescott, AZ. Her works have also been featured in several books including “The Best of Flower Painting” 1997, “Energizing Your Paintings with Color” 1993, “Tony Couch’s Keys to Successful Painting” 1992, along with “Southwest Art”, “Art of the West” and “Art West” magazines.
