This pastel drawing is by the artist Captain Edward Handley-Read (1870–1935) and at the time of this drawing the mill would have been owned by the writer Hilaire Belloc.Handley-Read was an interesting figure whose diverse output is a testament to his enquiry and energetic mind.On buff-coloured fleck paper.All artworks come with a Certificate of Authenticity and in some cases the accompanying collection text or artist biography. Signed: Signed lower right. Inscribed: Inscribed lower right. Height: 35.1cm (13.8″) Width: 25.3cm (10″) Condition: There is slight age toning across the image, within the window area of a previous mount. Very slight creasing to the margin at the right edge of the sheet, with a very short repaired tear, and hinging tape to the upper edge, which would be covered by a mount.
