Detroit Chair Factory set of four circa 1870
The Detroit Chair Factory was established in 1864 and closed their doors in 1877. They produced Victorian cane bottom chairs. These chairs are grain painted and decorated with red roses and gold tone scroll stenciling. We saw a copy of an old advertisement that shows these chairs were produced in 1870. Each chair has a wonderful patina and wear to them. They are sturdy and would make beautiful accent chairs. We found a couple condition issues with the cane seats. One seat has a few missing pieces we would consider minor and another has a bigger issue where the cane probably needs to be replaced. There is one chair that has a missing stretcher. We have included pictures of each condition issue for your review. The painted design is still strong and vibrant. There is paint loss and wear/nicks to the wood but consistent with what you would expect from chairs 140+ years old. Please note that each chair is marked "Detroit Chair Factory" (see photograph provided). Each chair measures 32.5" tall x 17.25" wide x 18.5" deep. Please review the photographs to see the condition details up close.
Note: additional photographs are available per your request.
