This magnificent French sofa, crafted in the late 18th to early 19th century (circa 1796-1825), evokes the esteemed style of Jacob-Desmalter, the renowned chairmaker and cabinetmaker who served King Louis XVI. Hand-carved from solid mahogany, this settee showcases exquisite craftsmanship and timeless elegance.
Designed for both comfort and style, this sofa features a high, slightly arched back that provides exceptional support. The large, firm seat comfortably accommodates three people, making it ideal for both formal gatherings and relaxed lounging.
The hand-carved details are a testament to the artistry of the period. Graceful scrolled arms and a top rail sculpted in shallow relief with acanthus leaves, lotus leaves, and rosettes exemplify the neoclassical patterns favored during the Directory-Restauration and Empire periods. These motifs remain highly sought after today, adding a touch of historical sophistication to any interior.
The bowed seat and apron of this elegant centre sofa showcase graceful, classical lines, complemented by comfortable scrolled arms and tapered legs. The high-arched, slightly curved backrest frame provides ample comfort. Upholstered in a striking red velvet, the back is also finished in velvet, making this sofa a perfect free-standing piece for placement in a living room, hallway, or even a stylish mudroom.
This sofa, with its beautiful, curvy shape, is not only stylish but also exceptionally sturdy. It makes a great statement furnishing in a living room. Consider pairing it with the separately available matching armchairs to complete the ensemble.
